Why is it known as Gay and Lesbian Pride It’s a symbol of sexuality and nonconformity. The word lesbian comes from two Latin roots that both refer to “queen” and “being feminine.” It derives from the French word”lesbian,” which refers to “that that is feminine and enjoys it.” Bi and Gay derive their names from the Greek words bian (which refers to “firm”) and homos (which means “firm”). In a variety of communities and societies all over the world these terms have been used to describe people who are attracted to people of the same sexuality.
Why is it important to commemorate this day every year? Pride is a custom that began in the Stonewall rebellion. It was during this time that the gay people were beaten, was spit upon and arrested for dancing in the streets. This set the stage for the freedoms and rights we have today. This colorful event created an infusion of energy that has swept across the nation, leading to major advancements in human and civil rights. Gay pride parades are a sign of pride and diversity that is internationally recognized today. Lesbian Pride celebrations also serve to show the world and our youth that being different and having different gender and sexual identities is not a problem.
Why do we have two distinct groups? Gay and lesbian communities did not just appear one day. It took effort and perseverance to build this movement and keep the doors of gay bars and clubs open late after night. We’ve evolved into an unstoppable force that shapes the future of lesbians across the United States and the rest of the world. In the end, there are hundreds of organizations and groups that are dedicated to preserving our rights as well as advancing the rights of lesbians.
Why is it important to take on our own issues? With new anti-gay laws that are being introduced every day, our civil rights are increasingly at risk. Gays and lesbians need each other and need the support of the society fighting for their fundamental right to live their lives without worry of losing their job or evicted from a home, harassed, beaten or killed for their sexual orientation or the way they express themselves.
Why do gay and lesbian people need equal rights? Everyone is born equal, right? Why discrimination against gay or lesbian civil rights considered to be discrimination. Why do some hate gay and lesbian people and want to ban same-sex marriage? Why is there so much fear and misunderstanding about gay and lesbians today? The truth isthat many of these issues have plagued gay and lesbians for years and continue to do so.
The Gay and Lesbian community have developed a lot in the last few years. We have made significant strides way in changing the hearts and minds of many people across the globe, and we’re not going back, ever. Pride is something that gay and lesbians deserve. We are ready to show the world that we are full-time members and proud to be gay or lesbian.
